  • Requester: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), Office Tirana, Rr. Skenderbej, No. 21/1
  • Profile: The Programme “Integrated Waste Management and Marine Litter Prevention in the Western Balkans” is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Development (BMZ). The overall programme objective is to improve the capacities of local and national actors in solid waste management and the circular economy in Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to reduce waste discharges into the Mediterranean Sea and rivers flowing into the sea.
  • Apply and further develop a suitable measurement and monitoring approach of land-based litter leakages (especially plastics) into water courses by analysing the waste generation and waste management situation in two specific river sub-basins (located in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro)
  • Assist the programme and its partners to agree on a common measurement and monitoring approach focussing on land-based sources
  • Identify and suggest adequate actions to prevent marine and riverine littering.

Team leader:

  • an in-depth and proven knowledge and track record in the field of marine litter and leakages of waste into the environment (and its multiple causes), monitoring of marine litter;
  • excellent knowledge of and access to the relevant institutional landscapes and its stakeholders (on local, and national level of both study areas) and on regional (Western Balkans) to international level;
  • very good and proven command of English (oral and written) and good language skills of at least one of the two study areas (Albanian language and BCMS-language), preferably of both.

Country experts:

  • experienced with SWM analytical studies (waste/material flow analysis and waste characterizations) preferably in low- and middle-income countries;
  • very knowledgeable about the sector in the respective countries of interest and its relevant parameters and data;
  • good and proven command of English (oral and written) and very good language skills of the respective country and study area (Albanian language or BCMS-language).

The submitted applications will be evaluated, and only prequalified candidates will be invited to answer to the bid.
